Enhesa spoke and exhibited at the National Association of Environmental Managers (NAEM) conference in Vancouver (Canada). The conference was also the 25th anniversary and has as theme “Auditing — Making a Difference — Celebrating 25 Years of Leadership and Innovation.” Enhesa Manager Cecile Baudon presented on International Regulatory Trends covering such topics as Occupational Safety and Health – Prevention of Workplace Illnesses, Injuries & Fatalities; Liability for Environmental Damage (particularly in Europe and China); Extended Producer Responsibility, Climate Change, and Chemicals (REACH, GHS) and Nanotechnology.

Enhesa was the host for the International Interest Group (IIG) of the Auditing Roundtable in Philadelphia (United States). We had our first kick-off call in June focused on how to make the IIG more active and relevant in the upcoming year. Additionally, Victoria Bain-Kurek, Head of Enhesa’s Auditing Protocol service line, gave a well received talk on the EHS Auditing standards around the world. As usual, she provided a lot of insightful information and inspired lots of questions.

In July 2007, Enhesa issued its 15,000th regulatory monitoring report. The Enhesa monitoring service was launched in 1995 and has made a long way since then from a printed report, over an electronically distributed report to a fully web-based service with personalized email alerts to the EHS managers. What started with a dozen countries now covers more than 110 countries/regions around the globe and the coverage keeps on expanding. Over a thousand facilities around the globe rely on the Enhesa monitoring service to get an update on new, pending and future regulatory developments that impact them, and the business impact analysis to helps them to anticipate on these developments and implement appropriate responses. Every month some 500 regulatory and policy developments are screened and some 250 of them are further analyzed and reported upon because they may have an impact on business. The service is unique in its nature due to the geographic coverage, but also due to the fact that it is tailored to the needs of each and every customer. The service is now also being provided in a dozen different languages, with the possibility for the user to add in his comments to the reports, to contact the Enhesa regulatory experts for further advice, to search through the regulatory texts concerned, and many more features that can be implemented dependent on customer specifications. Enhesa Director Paul Beatley presented an abridged version of the REACH overview to the Global Chemical Leaders' Summit in Singapore on 25 May, and participated in a panel discussion featuring speakers from China's Institute of Comprehensive Transportation of the National Development and Reform Commission and a senior representative of the Chemical Control Section of Singapore's National Environment Agency.

Enhesa Director Paul Beatley and Consultant Dennis Tan presented a one-day "Master Class" seminar in Singapore on 23 May on how international chemical companies need to prepare for the advent of the European Union's new REACH Regulation (EC/1907/2006), which came into force on 1 June 2007. The class was attended by over a dozen representatives of Asian-based chemical manufacturers and related companies from various countries, including Singapore, China, Thailand, Malaysia, Taiwan and Japan. The seminar focused on raising awareness of emerging new regulatory requirements impacting the placement of chemical substances, preparations and other products on the European market. Beginning with an overview of key emerging environmental and occupational safety and health regulatory trends worldwide, the program proceeded to an overview of the REACH Regulation, its requirements and its implications for the global chemical industry. The program also included a review of progress in the implementation of the UN's Globally Harmonized System for Chemicals Classification and Labeling (GHS), and then focused in more detail on the pre-registration requirements of REACH that will kick in on 1 June 2008. A practical exercise on "REACH Readiness" was also part of the programme, with participants role-playing in order to prepare a basic plan to ensure that all their products are properly pre-registered before the 1 December 2008 cut-off date.

Enhesa Director, Fabio Cherubini, participated in the European Workshop on Auditing, organized by the Auditing Roundtable in Barcelona (Spain). The Workshop brought together audit managers from companies with operations throughout Europe as well as several auditing consultants such as Enhesa to exchange best practices and discuss challenges.
