Technical Safety

The Process Safety module covers all aspects related to technical and facility issues, such as machinery and work equipment, lifting issues, fall protection, safe work with pressure systems, electric and explosive atmospheres, as well as issues relating to PPE and driver safety.

Topics Covered Include:

Machinery and Work Equipment: Provides an overview of the safety requirements applicable to machinery/work equipment/plant, details those individuals responsible for the machine’s compliance, as well as notes the necessary documentation/certification/label required for compliance.

Lock Out/ Tag Out: Provides specifics on the country-specific lock out/ tag requirements.

Confined Spaces:  Provides an overview of confined spaces, including what defines a confined space, requirements for the identification and labelling of confined spaces, as well as the procedures needed to be in place before entering a confined space.

Welding and Cutting/Hot Work: Provides an overview of the concept of hot work and the related risks that are regulated.

Lifting Equipment, Material Handling Equipment: Provides an overview of the various types of lifting equipment that may be regulated. Equipment includes, elevators for people, elevators for goods, cranes, slings and hoists, forklifts and loading bays, as well as loading trains and trucks.

Fall Protection/Working at Heights:  Provides an overview of the measures needed to be taken when working at heights.

Pressure Vessels/ Systems: Provides an overview of pressure vessels/systems and the requirements applicable to the use, transport, storage, maintenance, inspection, testing etc. of them.

Electrical Safety: Provides an overview of electrical safety, including the safety requirements applicable to electric installations.

Personal Protective Equipment: Provides an overview of personal protective equipment (PPE), noting the types of PPE that can be used, who needs to provide PPE to whom and under what circumstances as well as the obligations to enforce their use.

Potentially Explosive Atmospheres: Provides an overview of what is a potentially explosive atmosphere, the types of investigations and documents required, as well as the types of preventive measures needed to be implemented.

Laboratory Safety:  Provides an overview of the safety requirements applicable to laboratories, such as extraction hoods, PPE, waste segregation, storage limitations, etc.

Driver Safety:  Provides an overview on special requirements on driver safety.

Diving: Provides an overview on requirements for diving, for example in terms of training required, equipment required, records and inspections.

Sandblasting:  Provides an overview of requirements on sandblasting, such as the use of helmets, air supply, ear protection, training, etc.
