### Quick Summary

- The EU is moving toward sweeping restrictions on roughly 10,000 PFAS chemicals, covering their manufacture, use, and sale on the EU market.
- Carl Dannenberg, a scientific officer at Germany’s Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (BAuA), shares what industries need to know and do to prepare for these upcoming changes.
- Businesses across a wide range of sectors will need to act now, as the transition period after the restrictions take effect will demand significant planning.

There is a gathering momentum of new regulatory measures to eradicate and manage the hazardous perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl chemicals, known as PFAS, in products. At the PFAS updates Europe conference held on 16 October in Brussels key industry experts on PFAS were presenting their views to an audience keen to understand what’s coming for compliance.

ECHA proposes to ban or restrict approximately 10,000 PFAS in manufacturing, use or for placing on the EU market, with a transition period after entry into force, which require significant planning for a wide range of industry sectors to adapt with the chemicals they use.
